RELIGION
The first missionaries from Germany and the Netherlands arrived in manokwari, Irian Jaya, in 1855 carried Christian mission. Henceforth, the religion spread through around the island. In the north, west and eastern part Protestant has been largely accepted while at the south there are more Catholics. In cooperation with the government the missionaries then also built schools and hospitals. They also appeared to help peace projects and taught Bahasa Indonesia to the native people. Some built airstrips at outlying places where people had still no religion.
People around Fakfak and Raja Ampat,Sorong, are Moeslem. Animism and dynamism are also still confessed by many Irianese, especially those living in the Baliem Valley, Asmat and Korowai. Just like other parts of Indonesia, although religion varies from one place to another, all live side by side in harmony. Sharing is sexy
