Jayapura is the provincial capital and the biggest city in Irian Jaya. The city is lying on from the Humboldt Bay to Base-G Beach with population of about 140,000. There are two to three flights daily from Jakarta to Jayapura. The accommodations available in the city vary from two-star rating to smaller hotels. There-and four-star hotels are being planned to build.
It was formerly called Hollandia in 1910 during the colonization of the Netherlands, became Kotabaru after the integration into Indonesia and again changed to Sukarnopura and now Jayapura. Jayapura in Bahasa Indonesia means glorious city.
