Irian Jaya also has the richest concentration of  plan life in Indonesia or perhaps the world. Hundreds of species that are medicinal use, over 2,500 species of orchids, including giant orchid Raflesia Arnoldi(Amophophallus). Also the exceptional two toned Rhododendron zoelleri that grows at 2,000 meters some of these still unidentified by the scientist. Around the Mount Lorentz Reserve live typical orchids such like tiny orchids of 4 centimeters tall. Dendrobium vannouhuysii, known only from Irian Jaya and Dendrobium subclausum, a very variable orchid foud through the New Guinea mountains. Both species are pollinated by small birds, such as sunbirds, and can be found growing in the ground.

Some of the animals live in Irian Jaya are the same as those found in Australia such as Kangaroo(Macropus),the Agile Walaby (Macropus agilis), Cuscus (Phalanger) and some more others. The Agile Wallaby is found in the monsoonal plains and savannahs of southern Irian Jay, and some 30,000 may occur in the Wasur National Park, Merauke. Other animals that you can find in the park are large monitor lizard (Varanus salvator ), the long but small-bodied, endemic Salvadori's Monitor (Varanus salvadorii), short-beaked echidna(Tachiglossus aculeatus), tiger moth and common dragonfly.

There are over 650 kinds of birds live  in Irian Jaya, 454 of them are native to the island, including bird of paradise (Paradise spoda), flightless Cassowary (Kasuarius), Crowned pigeons (Gonravictoria). Birdwatchers and biologist may see them around Cycloops mountains around Jayapura, Yapen Waropen islands and through Jayapura, Yapen Waropen islands and through the island's parks and reserves.
