FLORA AND FAUNA
Some of the animals live in Irian Jaya are the same as those found in Australia such as Kangaroo(Macropus),the Agile Walaby (Macropus agilis), Cuscus (Phalanger) and some more others. The Agile Wallaby is found in the monsoonal plains and savannahs of southern Irian Jay, and some 30,000 may occur in the Wasur National Park, Merauke. Other animals that you can find in the park are large monitor lizard (Varanus salvator ), the long but small-bodied, endemic Salvadori's Monitor (Varanus salvadorii), short-beaked echidna(Tachiglossus aculeatus), tiger moth and common dragonfly.
There are over 650 kinds of birds live in Irian Jaya, 454 of them are native to the island, including bird of paradise (Paradise spoda), flightless Cassowary (Kasuarius), Crowned pigeons (Gonravictoria). Birdwatchers and biologist may see them around Cycloops mountains around Jayapura, Yapen Waropen islands and through Jayapura, Yapen Waropen islands and through the island's parks and reserves.
